The Black Horseman (The Temple Islands Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

On one of the infinite Earths floating through the vast multiverse, a set of random acts of violence inadvertently alters the planet’s destiny, nudging it onto an intersecting course with our own. The strange but familiar planet is whisper close, invisible to the eye, and impossible to touch; it hovers just beyond the reach of our senses, but it is a constant companion and shifting ever closer.
It begins with war, the collapse of a nation, and the execution of two families. The brutal nature of the murders, orchestrated by the deadly Tar Navarra, Executioner from the Temple Islands, forever entwines the fates of two young survivors. Gwaynn and Samantha are alone, afraid, and on the run. Utterly ignorant of their shared peril, they are tenaciously hunted, their paths pushed steadily closer. To survive they must stay one step ahead of the Executioner, but Navarra is ruthless. Navarra is relentless. Navarra is death; the Black Horseman himself, and he will not stop until the two have met their grisly end.

This story begins by grabbing your emotions and wrenching your gut.
It is gruesome but you can't stop reading. Though the whole book your heart will beat fast and you will find yourself out of breath. The author has a way of making you feel as if you are by the side of the main character, Gwaynn. You are drawn into his mind feeling what he feels.
The book is well crafted and never has uninteresting rhetoric. The author has a wonderful command of words and writes with the pallet of an artist.
I do my reading at the end of my day. I then fall asleep. This book made that hard to do. I found myself holding my eyelids open because I had to find out what happened next.
The story is very interesting and never disappoints. It is a science-fiction adventure that keeps you guessing about who these people are, and when this is taking place. You will enjoy the ride!
I can't wait to see what Mr. Parker will write next.

Lots of action and fairly good story line. I had a hard time putting it down and for me that means it's a keeper.

This is not a good book. I had planned to give it 2 stars out of a sense of fairness. After all, the author has written several books and I have not. The author is clearly influenced by George R.R. Martin, Stephen King, and Terry Brooks, and has sought to emulate the style and feel of those worlds, but has only succeeded clumsily. However, the reason I'm giving this one star instead of two is that the author has no sense of human psychology, and has characters say words and do actions which betray even the flimsiest development they've received so far, and which display an adolescent sense of violence, emotion, and sexuality.

Self published author working without a net. Story needs tightening up, it the author would use a better editor these issues could be eliminated. Fun stories with such poor presentation are a crime against readers. Continuing story with no end in sight.
